Emerald Wood Community Garden was started in Fall 2014 on the City of Austin-owned Williamson Creek Central Greenbelt area. This area has been continually improved by Southwood Neighborhood Association since 2005 and originally began as a wildlife habitat area garden. The garden team wants to help members of their community, including schools, other nonprofits and individuals learn how to grow their own food. Particular emphasis is placed on low water use, high yield natural methods such as keyhole, raised beds and olla gardens. The garden incorporates native and useful wild plants, two existing butterfly gardens, and an extensive wildflower meadow.
