Huston-Tillotson Green is the New Black Garden

Huston-Tillotson University’s Green is the New Black campus food garden was started in Fall 2013 to re-introduce organic gardening to our historically black campus. In its short history, the garden has been relocated and then expanded (from 2 raised beds to 6) and been enhanced by the addition of a small compost system. Plans for expansion are ongoing. The garden has benefited greatly from Sustainable Food Center’s Introduction to Food Gardening class taught on site and campus volunteering events like the MLK Jr. Day Spread the Service Campaign. The garden is used for a combination of teaching and food production.
